A hundred years ago, World War 1 had just ended, films were silent, and horse and buggies were still commonplace (cars weren’t affordable for everyone).
But something else happened 100 years ago. Elsie Borchers was born.
Elsie celebrates 100 years
Elsie turned 100 May 3, 2019.
Residents at Avamere at Sherwood, their families, and Elsie’s family celebrated Elsie’s birthday May 4 at 1 p.m.
Elsie was the first resident at Avamere at Sherwood, moving in for assisted living in January 2000, where she has called home for the last 19 years.
“Elsie has always been so warm, friendly, and has such an inviting personality,” said Sabrina Thompson, Life Enrichment Director at Avamere at Sherwood. “She has a smile that lights up the room.”
While Elsie spends most days relaxing now, she used to love painting, a hobby Thompson said she was great at. Elsie also enjoys puzzles and crosswords.
Elsie’s family even has a local road named after them – Borchers Drive.
Living the Avamere mission
This celebration is one example of Avamere’s mission to “enhance the life of every person we serve.” Avamere staff strive to get to know their residents and treat them as their own family.
For the staff at Avamere at Sherwood, they’re doing this by celebrating a great milestone in Elsie’s life.
Happy 100th birthday to Elsie!
